Mimi

Speaker's Bio: Mimi Rosenthal is President of Mimi Rosenthal Design LLC, a company specializing in residential design and remodeling.

But, in an earlier life, Mimi was a speech pathologist working in a V.A. hospital in New York City, then the public schools in Cherry Hill, New Jersey, and briefly in the Austin public schools when she and her husband first moved here.

Her love of art and design eventually pulled her in a different direction. She became a docent at the University of Texas museum of art when it was housed in the Humanities Research Center. She has always believed that art can engage everyone and delighted in touring groups of adults and school children through the museum’s collections.

Eventually she entered The University of Texas at Austin to study interior design and was quickly hired back as a lecturer.

While on the faculty at UT, she taught numerous courses including foundations of residential design, textiles and visual merchandising and display techniques. She was appointed to a two-year term as head of the interior design program during which time she worked with students and faculty to ensure the continuation of the program’s professional certification.

She remembers, as a child, being inspired by the fine textiles in her father’s custom tailoring shop for men. From bolts of woolens and worsteds to fine cashmeres and camel hair, these fabrics would eventually find their way into some of her designs.

Mimi has received recognition for her custom designs, which include copper clad doors and unique furniture pieces. She is a recipient of the American Society of Interior Designers design excellence award.

Mimi was born and raised in Rochester, NY. She has a BS degree from the State University of New York at Geneseo and a Master of Arts degree from Columbia University in the City of New York.

Her newest endeavor is a blog that made its debut on January 1st this year. It is titled Mimi Takes the Stairs. She hopes you will take a look.
