Speakers Bio: Eddie Bloom has master degrees in both political science and international affairs and has worked in the field internationally for the last 12 years. Prior to his work abroad, Eddie was employed by the State of Texas and he is also a former Austin Downtown Lion’s Club member and Past President. He has worked extensively in numerous community service organizations, including the US Peace Corps, the Texas Association for the Education of Young Children and the Texas School for the Blind. While he is visiting home in Austin for a short break from his work in Afghanistan, he has agreed to join us as a featured luncheon speaker.

Carpet Politics
After over 7 years living and working in Afghanistan, Eddie has established himself as a tribal carpet expert, developed as a hobby along side his position as a contracting officer for the USAID Afghan Mission. Tribal patterns are as complicated as the local politics, and to understand their patterns and symbolism is to understand this tribal-dominated nation. Presentations will be made on the tribal origins, material use and craftsmanship of this amazing, wholly organic, Afghan textile. Join us for stories from the field, photos not seen on TV, and a wide display of authentic Afghan tribal carpets at this very special luncheon.

Featured Lunch Menu: Grilled Chicken w/ artichoke and caper cream sauce, georgette potatoes with peas and carrots; mixed field green salad with assorted rolls and a featured daily dessert. Vegetarian meal or Grilled Chicken Caesar salad are available alternatives as well.

Please register by noon on Wednesday.

We order meals based on your reservations and must pay for them even if you do not show up. Please keep this in mind if your plans shift and cancel your reservation so we can adjust the headcount.
