What is Happening to the People Coming to the U.S. Border Fleeing Persecution?

Jennifer will discuss the dilemma faced by people around the world who are looking for a safe haven. She will explain what happens when these folks reach the US border and what outcomes they face. Jennifer will describe some recent cases at Casa Marianella and discuss changes to immigration enforcement during the current administration. She will also suggest ideas for how to improve the US asylum system. Comments and questions will be welcome.

About our Speaker: 

Jennifer Long has been the Executive Director and later Co Executive Director of Casa Marianella for 28 years. She has a Masters in ESL from the University of Texas. She spent a year working as part of a Catholic Worker community in Los Angeles during her college years, then taught elementary school for 4 years. Her desire to help immigrants and refugees grew out of her interest in foreign policy and the circumstances that drive people from their native homes.
