Foundation Communities

Foundation Communities is a local, homegrown nonprofit that provides affordable, attractive homes and free on-site support services for thousands of families with kids, as well as veterans, seniors, and individuals with disabilities. Foundation Communities offers an innovative, proven model that empowers their residents to achieve educational success, financial stability, and healthier lifestyles.  Foundation Communities operates 31 apartment communities - 28 in Austin and three more in North Texas. 

About our Speaker:

Walter Moreau is the Executive Director of Foundation Communities, which works in Texas to create affordable housing where families succeed. His vision has been to create deeply affordable housing that is beautiful, well managed, and uplifting. During his 30-plus year career he has secured subsidy financing of more than $700 million to create more than 5,000 units of service-enriched, nonprofit-owned affordable housing. Each community includes on-sight education, health, and green features. Walter led FC to develop the Prosper Financial Centers, which serve over 40,000 families each year, and to create supportive housing for both individuals and families transitioning from homelessness. Walter holds a Masters Degree in Public Affairs from the University of Texas LBJ School of Public Affairs (1994). His numerous awards include: Inaugural Affordable Austin Champion Award, Austin Business Journal Commercial Real Estate Awards, 2023; Real Estate Council of Austin, Community Service Award, 2022; Vision Award, Urban Land Institute of Austin, 2021; Interfaith Action of Central Texas’ Affordable Housing Hero, 2012; Whitney M. Young Jr. Leadership Award, Austin Area Urban League, 2010; "Best Grackle" The Austin Chronicle Best of Austin Winner, 2022.
