Dr. Alan Schalscha

About our Speaker:
Dr. Schalscha serves as an Executive Vice President and Chief Medical Officer for the Travis County Hospital District.
Prior to his current position, he served as the Chief Medical Officer of Central Health – affiliated CommUnityCare Health Centers. Dr. Schalscha is a clinical associate professor within the Dell Medical School at The University of Texas at Austin, where he functions as an educator and mentor.
For over three decades, Dr. Alan Schalscha has volunteered as a board member and leader of DOCARE International, a medical outreach organization dedicated to providing health care to underserved communities around the world. As mission medical director of DOCARE, he annually leads a team of 70-100 providers and students to Guatemala. He has also been instrumental in the establishment and operation of two permanent continuity clinics in San Andres, Itzapa and Tecpán, Guatemala.
In 2019 Dr. Schalscha was named Humanitarian of the Year by the Travis County Medical Society for his work both locally and internationally.
He graduated from The University of Texas with two bachelor’s degrees and a master’s degree prior to entering medical school. He received his medical degree from Midwestern University and completed his training in family medicine.
