The upcoming election will be issue packed, one of which is the implementation (or not) of Single Member Districts. We will have an informational, non-partisan discussion on the ins and outs of this possible change to our City Council governing structure so you can better understand the issue and decide for yourself on voting day.

Speakers Bio:

Gonzalo Barrientos was first elected to the Texas House of Representatives in 1974 and started serving on January 1, 1975. He served in the House until his election to the Texas Senate where he served until December, 2006.

In 2012, the Austin City Council appointed him to serve as the Chairperson of the Charter Revision Committee charged with the responsibility of reviewing the manner in which Council Members are elected and to make recommendations for possible changes to the system. The committee that he chaired recommended the 10-1 single member district plan that is on the ballot for the upcoming November election.

Featured Lunch Menu: meat and vegetables dish (TBD); mixed field green salad with assorted rolls and a featured daily dessert. Vegetarian meal or Grilled Chicken Caesar salad are available alternatives as well.
