 Ken Murdock
Introduced by Lion Bill Martin

About our Speaker:

Ken Murdock joined the Marketing Department at Texas State University in August, 2006 as a lecturer teaching the Principles of Marketing course. Prior to teaching at Texas State University, he taught in the Management Department at the University of Texas at Arlington for 2 years. Courses taught include Principles of Management, Consumer Behavior, Leadership in Organizations, International Business, and Directed Studies in Entrepreneurship. In 2008, he was promoted to Senior Lecturer in the Marketing Department of Texas State University.

His formal education included Bachelor of Business Administration (major: economics, 1975), and Master of Business Administration (1975) degrees from Baylor University in Waco, TX.

Mr. Murdock worked in the plastics manufacturing industry from 1980 through 2000. His positions include serving as part owner and vice president of marketing, national accounts, and product development at P&E, Inc. in Dallas TX, where his company made plastic containers for the soft drink, dairy, and bakery industries, and waste collection containers for recycling.

In January 2000, Mr. Murdock started his own executive recruiting company, Murdock & Associates, where he recruited engineers, accountants, sales representatives, HR directors, and finance professionals for plastics manufacturing companies throughout the United States.

In 2010, Mr. Murdock published Your Complete Guide to Job Search and Career Change, which was written to assist job seekers, many of whom were displaced and/or laid off following the economic downturn that began in 2008.

Since beginning his teaching at Texas State University, Mr. Murdock has been active in testing and adopting technology in the classroom, including online digital learning platforms, classroom response systems, online discussion platforms, and most recently, teaching Principles of Marketing in an online, asynchronous format that includes producing lectures on video, exploring technology to assist students with disabilities, and using online digital learning platforms to collect and produce information that assesses and delivers data to use in AACSB and SACS accreditation.

In addition to teaching Principles of Marketing, Mr. Murdock serves as an advisor to the Texas State University CAFÉ (Career and Financial Education) program, an innovative program to assist Texas State students in learning how to successfully transition from the university to professional schools or enter the workforce. He has conducted seminars for CAFÉ counselors in how to help student prepare and construct effective résumés.

He currently serves as the Director of the Marketing Internship Program and the Core Course Coordinator for the Marketing Department. Other areas of service include the Assurance of Learning Committee made up of instructors from all of the core courses in McCoy College of Business, Marketing Department representative for the Texas State Charitable Giving Campaign, faculty sponsor for multiple student organizations, and leading a review of prospective textbooks and digital platforms for adoption in the fall 2018 semester. He also speaks to several student organizations each year about creating effective job search strategies and résumés.
