Presented by Stephanie Houston

President/Cofounder, Island Get away Rum

Introduced by Lion Ann Ward

A chance meeting at a dinner and a blind contract signing led to the creation of Texas' leading rum producer. Hear the story of how Hye Rum was founded, as told by this entrepreneur/ executive. She’s got a great story and treats for us! Her program will make you want to visit the Hye Rum showroom near Dripping Springs!

Biography

Stephanie Houston is a founder of Hye Rum, a craft distillery in Dripping Springs, Texas. A University of Texas graduate, Houston began her professional career in Dallas. After a successful career as a founder of Platinum Select, a nationwide medical-staffing firm, she helped pioneer the Deep Ellum resurgence with music venue LaGrange and opened the first trailer-park eatery in Dallas.

A chance meeting in Hye, Texas, with distiller James Davidson led to their current venture. At Hye Rum, Houston’s day-to-day work includes forecasting, brand awareness, cocktail design and event planning, a role she loves. Hye Rum is set to merge into its Island Getaway line in 2022.

HYE Rum and Island Getaway Rum specialize in bold island-style rums. Their goal is to keep the spirit intact with no additives or added sugar while perfecting the craft of quality rum.

As president of the company and with 25 years’ experience in sales and marketing, Stephanie oversees Hye’s operations, marketing and sales efforts. As one of a handful of female Texas distillery owners, she is also an advocate for the industry and is fighting for legislative change in Texas liquor laws.
