Mothers Against Drunk Drivers-Where Did You Go?

DATE: Thursday February 17, 2022  12:30 pm via Zoom

 Judge Jon Wisser
Introduced by Lion Mac Ragsdale

Our own Lion Jon Wisser will be sharing some of his vast judicial experience gained from some 43 years in the Travis County Criminal Justice system, including 40 years as a judge. Judge Wisser will be speaking to us about DWI laws, and more importantly, local policies and how they have "evolved" over the years.

About our Speaker:

Judge Wisser is a homegrown Texan who graduated from high school in San Antonio and received both his B.A. and J.D from the University at Texas and UT School of Law. He was ROTC commissioned as a 2nd Lt. in the US Army, served in Vietnam and exited the army reserves as a captain.

Judge Wisser has been a Senior District Court Judge since 20007, and has served in the criminal justice system of Travis County for 43 years; 40 of those as a judge. When he served as a Justice of the Peace, a study revealed his court was the most efficient of the county’s justice courts. During the five years he spent as a judge of a county court-at-law, Judge Wisser tried more cases, both civil and criminal, than any judge in the county. (Yes. He’s an overachiever!)

His contributions to the criminal justice system are exceptional. He designed and implemented the felony court-appointed attorney system in Travis County; designed and established Drug Diversion Court; designed and established Child Abuse Impact Court Program; assisted in establishing Probation Department’s Alcohol Treatment Program; established the Criminal Court’s Office of Court Administration and created Travis County’s Criminal Magistrate Court.

More recently, he’s become involved with the Austin Runner’s club, Jester Estates Homeowners Association, YMCA of Austin and the Capitol Area Tennis Association. He’s also a proud past president of the Founder Lions Club.

He and his wife Eva, who’s also an attorney, have three children: Adina, Robin and Landon.
