 Shirley Dillman
Introduced by Lion Glenda Summers

Lion Shirley Dillman of the Round Rock Lions Club will speak to us about the USA/Canada Forum which she attended last September in Des Moines, Iowa. She will also be offering particular insight regarding membership and Leos.

About our Speaker:

Lion Shirley Dillman is a farm girl from Lincoln, NE area where she earned her teaching degree at the University of Nebraska at Lincoln. She taught all grade levels in the classroom, physical and special education during four decades from Nebraska, to Japan, to CA, and Montana. She also started her real estate business in small town Culbertson, Montana.

She became a ‘dues paying’ Lion in 1994. It was 4 years later she became a ‘dedicated’ Lion after visiting Leader Dog where she witnessed the tears of joy the visually impaired persons shed when they received their first ‘free' Best Friend.

Shirley and her PDG husband Gene Dillman were enjoying an International Convention in Birmingham, England when they received message that the lower half of their home flooded. Neighbors took the liberty to enter the unlocked back door to muck it out. Six weeks later Gene passed due to a massive heart attack. Within 3 days Lions, Church family and local businesses rebuilt her home so family from FL, TX, CA and parts between could stay with her for the funeral. That volunteer community service has caused Shirley to attempt ‘To Serve’ someone every day.

After retiring from teaching in 2002 she became District Governor of Eastern Montana. She’s held many club and District offices. She also served 2 years as MD 37 Membership Chairperson (that’s all of Montana and Alberta, Canada).

In 2005 she moved from the ice box of northern Montana to the oven in Round Rock where she was immediately appointed District LEO Chairperson as she had retired as a high school teacher, then Peace Poster, Youth Opportunities, GMT for 4 years and now our District’s LCIF Ambassador for 4 years.

Lion Shirley is proud to ‘volunteer from the heart’ as a Lion ‘To Serve’ those less fortunate.
