Celebration of the AISD Elementary Schools named after Lions

A discussion presented by two elementary school principals describing the impact of Covid 19 on standard operating procedures at their schools. Each principal will include successes, difficulties, and responses to their educational challenges. Presentations will be followed by 10 minutes of questions.

Tommy will be introducing each principal to begin the program, with a brief history of the schools.

About our Speakers:

Alan Stevens is a third generation Texas teacher and principal. He began his teaching career as a band director in Marble Falls, Texas in the fall of 1986 and has also taught in Coldpring, TX, and Pasadena, TX. He began teaching in the Austin ISD in the fall of 1994 where he was a band director at Bailey MS. He moved into administration in the Spring of 1999. He has served as an assistant principal at Highland Park ES and at Small MS. He was the principal at Patton ES from 2005 – 2014. After serving as Director of Instructional Technology for AISD, he has been principal at Boone ES for the last 5 years.

Heather Parmelee has been with the Austin Independent School District for 24 years. She served as a teacher at Boone Elementary, as an instructional specialist at Perez Elementary School, and as an assistant principal at Mills, Palm and Pleasant Hill Elementary Schools. Ms. Parmelee is now the proud Principal of Kocurek Elementary School and is in her seventh year serving Kocurek and its community. Mrs. Parmelee also is the Akins Vertical Team leader and represents the Akins Vertical Team schools at the district level. In addition, she serves on AAPSA, Austin Association of Public-School Administrators, to represent fellow principals in communications with AISD.
