Ocular Health Disparities Affecting Women

As people age, their eyes become more likely to develop conditions such as dry eye, age-related macular degeneration and glaucoma. While these conditions affect both genders, older women face enhanced risk. Dr. Edmond will describe these conditions, signs/symptoms and explain various risk factors as well as treatment.

About Dr. Jane Edmond

Jane Edmond, MD, is the Inaugural Chair and Professor of the Department of Ophthalmology at Dell Medical School, as well as the Director of the Mitchel and Shannon Wong Eye Institute. She also holds the Wong Family Distinguished University Chair at the University of Texas at Austin. 

She is a member of Austin Founder Lions Club. 

Her undergraduate degree is from The University of Texas at Austin.  She went to Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, for her medical degree. After her Ophthalmology residency at the Cullen Eye Institute, Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, she completed a Pediatric Ophthalmology & Strabismus Fellowship with the University of Iowa in 1990 and in 2007 she completed another Fellowship: Neuro-Ophthalmology with Baylor College of Medicine in Houston.  She is board certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology.  

Dr. Edmond is a native of El Paso. She and her husband, Dr. Randal S. Weber, have two adult children. She is enjoying living in Austin and exploring the abundance this gorgeous city has to offer!
