Restorative Justice in AISD and Beyond
July 23, 2015

Featured Speaker: Pat Siebert, Director, Restorative Justice of Austin

Introduced by Lions Alan Ford and Roberto Martinez

What do you mean by compassion?  What obstacles stop you from being compassionate?

What do you do to remove those obstacles?

These are key questions in the process of replacing punitive/reward paradigms of social interaction with relationships based on restorative/partnership principles.  One such effort is taking place in the Austin Independent School District.

Pat Siebert opened the Feldenkrais Center of Austin in 1985, working with individuals recovering from chronic back pain or sports injuries. He has taught at the pain clinic at MD Anderson in Houston, was vice-president of the Feldenkrais Guild of North America from 1987 to 1989, and now serves as a Member Advocate resolving disputes.  Pat also owns a for profit business, Collaborative Communication, where he educates and supports parents, entrepreneurs and business executives with workshops and individual sessions promoting self-responsibility, mutual understanding, and collaborative action by improving communication skills.

As director of the nonprofit Restorative Justice of Austin, Pat supports and educates community members, administrators, teachers, students, couples and families wanting to integrate empathy and non-violence into their daily actions.
