Weekly Luncheon & Program
Vietnam - The Early Days
introduced by Lion JP Kirksey
Lion
Ernest Auerbach
entered the United States Army in 1962 and arrived in Saigon in March 1966 as the 22nd of 350 Judge Advocates (yes, he’s a Lawyer) who served in Vietnam during the war. He will tell us about his introduction into Vietnam from his prior assignment in Germany and life in Vietnam, from the highlands to the delta, and Saigon. He will also share some pointers about several general courts martial that he tried or defended. He will close with some post scripts to his service in Vietnam including some observations about Vietnam today. This should be a very interesting perspective about events that transpired more than 40 years ago.
About our Lion Ernest Auerbach
Ernest entered the United States Army in 1962 and served as a regular and reserve officer for 23 years, retiring in the rank of colonel. In 1996-1997 he served as a captain in the Republic of Vietnam. He began a 38 year business career in 1970 working for corporations including Xerox, CIGNA, Anderson Consulting AIG. Besides serving in overseas Army assignments in Germany and Vietnam, he had corporate postings in England, Mexico, Japan and Hong Kong. He has written one business book, a book of Vietnam memoirs and published numerous articles for the Wall Street Journal and other publications. His decorations include the Legion of Merit with Oak Leaf Cluster and the Bronze Star. He moved to Austin last year from New York City and Connecticut with his wife Jeanette. Besides becoming a Lion earlier this year, he volunteers at the Harry Ransom Center, writes a management column for the University of Texas Business School and serves on the Board of Trustees of Austin Lyric Opera
