Weekly Luncheon & Program

"There Ought to be a Law........."
introduced by Lion Judge Wil Flowers

How many times have you heard people say, when observing some behavior that disturbs them, that "there ought to be a law against that type of conduct." Well, your Legislature often hears the people's and businesses' complaints, and as a result, every time the Legislature meets they pass (inflict) new criminal laws on the citizens of Texas. Shannon Edmonds, formerly a assistant district attorney for Travis County is the staff attorney for the Texas District and County Attorneys Association and is in charge of governmental relations. Part of his job entails monitoring the Legislature when they are in session and advising them on the position of the State's district and county attorneys on various legislation. While the old adage, "three things you never want to see are: sausage being made, the Legislature passing laws, and the urban criminal courts dispersing justice" may well keep us from going to the capitol, Shannon is there and sees it all. He will report to us on what they did in the last session of the Legislature and what we might look forward to in the next session. This is sure to be a most informative and interesting presentation.
