Vision Screening for preschool age children

In collaboration with the City of Austin and the Registered Opticians Association of Texas, the Austin Downtown Lions club will be providing free testing for vision problems for preschool age children.

It has been determined that 50% of children who have trouble learning can attribute it to some kind of vision problem. Our goal is to help parents and caregivers of young children determine as early as possible if they may have a vision problem that can be treated. We will be testings children from 6 months through 4 years of age.

The test is FREE and takes 5 seconds or less and can detect Amblyopia("lazy eye"), Stambismus(eye turns), Myopia(nearsightedness), Hyperopia(farsightedness), Astigmatism(irregular shaped corneas or lenses), Cataracts(media opacities) and Anisometropia(differences in strength between the two eyes). More information about the test can be found at www.pediavision.com or roatx.org.

Any children who are identified as having a condition that needs professional attention will be referred to a Pediatric Ophthalmologist.
