ALL HANDS ON DECK TO STOP VETERAN SUICIDE IN AMERICA

Glenn Towery will share a little about the history and the goals of the "Veterans Suicide Prevention Channel" and their vision for the future. He will explain why the VSPChannel created the Austin Veteran Arts Festival to help prevent suicide, why they do not ask veterans for their private information and why they have designed a plan to use the combination of Arts, family and community to help positively impact veterans who are suffering from PTSD. Right now, during this current COVID-19 pandemic veteran suicide is dramatically on the rise. He will talk about the statistics of veteran suicide and the arts can be used and is needed by veterans who are isolating during this period of time as people Social Distance.

About our Speaker:

Glenn Towery is a decorated Vietnam combat veteran of the United States Navy who is also an, award winning screenplay writer, filmmaker, actor, composer and singer. He presently serves as the chairman of the Veterans Suicide Prevention Channel and the “Austin Veteran Arts Festival” both are organizations he founded. An award winning screenplay writer/Director, and editor, in 1997, Glenn graduated from his alma mater, Columbia College Hollywood, in Los Angeles earning a Bachelor of Arts as a Cinema Major and a Minor in Television Broadcasting. He became the first African American valedictorian in its 60 year history in 1997.

His Production Company is Fairy GodBrother Productions & Film Company, LLC., and he is currently producing the motion picture “Starfunk and the Astral Pioneers”. Glenn has a 50 year history in community theater in Los Angeles. Where he worked with and learned from many of the greats. He was recently hired as the “Executive Producer” of the “Spectrum Theater Company” in Austin, Texas. Spectrum Theater Company is Austin’s only Black Theater company.

This year Glenn Towery was awarded “BEST SCREENPLAY SCI-Fi” at the “FESTIGIOUS International Film Festival”, in Los Angeles for his screenplay “STARFUNK and the ASTRAL PIONEERS”. Over the years he has won honors at several screenplay competitions for several scripts including the Hollywood and Cannes Screenplay contests. He is a 3 year member of the “100 Black Men of Austin, Texas” organization.www.100blackmenaustin.org/

Glenn Towery is also a member of the Georgetown, Texas Rotary Club. He takes immense pride in being a Rotarian and an artist. He is a clock artist whose paintings have exhibited at a Smithsonian affiliated museum. You can view his art at: glenn-towery.squarespace.com
