Ensign Sofia Hruby Introduced by Lion Mim Hruby
As a product of the Ann Richards School for Young Women Leaders, Sofia Hruby sought a career in which she would have the opportunity to lead others and do so in a male dominated field. The opportunities presented by the military and service academies offered exactly what Sofia was looking for. This is the story of her journey to the US Naval Academy.
About our Speaker: Ensign Sofia Hruby hails from Austin, Texas. Before leaving the Lone Star State for Annapolis, Sofia made a year long pit stop at Clemson University and competed on the volleyball team. Her desire to serve and become a pilot prompted Sofia to transfer to the Naval Academy. At Navy, Sofia has continued her volleyball career, contributed to the program’s first Patriot League Championship, spent a semester abroad in Madrid, Spain, and served as Company Commander. Last summer, Sofia completed her first solo in a Piper Warrior. She recently commissioned as a Navy Pilot and awaits to begin flight school in October.
