George Bohn
Introduced by Lion Norman Tyring
George Bohn is a dancer, tapper, and rhythm maker with a career spanning over 50 years. His guiding artistic vision throughout his career has been to expand the boundaries and challenge the preconceptions of what tap dancing is and can be. His work with Mercedes Ellington and the pioneering company DancEllington led to his choreographing both the Russian and Sugar Plum Fairy Dances for DancEllington’s premier of Duke Ellington’s Nutcracker Suite. While with DancEllington he also assisted Ms. Ellington choreographing the show Body and Soul in collaboration with George Faison and Graciela Daniele. Produced by Andre Heller, Body and Soul opened at the Munich Opera House to a standing ovation. George’s performance career has taken him across three continents and offered him the opportunity to work with everyone from Broadway greats to movie stars. He continues to work for the advancement of tap dance as an art form and endeavors to instill this appreciation in his students across wherever he goes. His founding of the Austin Rhythm Incubator brings together percussive dancers, musicians, spoken word artists, and rhythm makers from across Austin to build a community of artists that value tap dance and the percussive arts. George believes that by building a warm, inviting, and supportive community of artists, new and innovative ideas will emerge and that these art forms can then be launched into the mainstream.
