Pre "White Cane Day"

October 1, 2015

Introduced by Lion Patti Robinson

Note that This Meeting is Not At our Usual Location
We will be Meeting at:

Texas School for the Blind and Visually Impaired (TSBVI)
at the Health Center and Recreation (bldg 603)

1100 W. 45th Street
Austin TX 78756

We will be meeting at the TSBVI on building 603 (Health Center and Recreation). Lion Patti Robinson will present information about the upcoming White Cane Day, scheduled for Wednesday October 18, 2017.

Mary Faith Cowart will be our speaker for the event. She has worked at Texas School for the Blind and Visually Impaired for over 20 years and volunteers with individuals and students in the community to help them navigate the stage, the community and their world.

Mary Faith will talk about White Cane Day, the history, Lions role and what to expect on the day of the event. White Cane day will be celebrated at TSBVI on October 18. On that day people who are blind or visually impaired from all over the community will independently travel to the school in a show of independence. We will have short orientation and mobility video and certified orientation and mobility instructors that will demonstrate appropriate guide techniques for people who may be having problems orienting themselves to the environment.

Our Club will be moving its weekly location to TSBVI, so this is a chance to come check out our new digs! Our new meeting room is pretty swanky, and it features state-of-the-art AV and audio technology. The attractive setting and high quality sound and visual equipment will help us make a good first-impression on prospective members! And the rest us us will enjoy the amenities too!

The meeting and room are handicap-accessible, and nearby parking is plentiful. See the map here. If you are mobility challenged, you may prefer to park in the visitor lot in front of the main building (bldg 600) on 45th St. and wait for a ride to the meeting location.

Please don't go to to The High Road on Oct.5 You'll be alone!
