Weekly Luncheon & Program

The American Soldier
introduced by Lion Scott Hendrix

Colonel Kurt J. Pinkerton, U.S. Army, is currently participating in the Senior Service College Fellows program at the University of Texas at Austin.  He will speak to us on how soldiers and leaders learn to adapt to an operational environment in industry when their service time is complete.  Understanding the skills a soldier brings to those he or she serves helps foster a better understanding of the relationships between military and civilian organizations.

COL Pinkerton is from San Jose, California and is a graduate of San Jose State University .  His education includes a Bachelor of Science from San Jose State University and an MBA from Embry Riddle Aeronautical University .  He is a graduate of the Infantry Officer Basic Course, Infantry Office Advanced Course, the Command and General Staff College, and the Joint Forces Staff College .

COL Pinkerton took command of the 2nd Battalion, 5th Cavalry Regiment in July of 2005 where he prepared the battalion for deployment in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom 06-08.  The battalion was deployed in October 2006 to the Abu Ghraib area west of

Baghdad, Iraq until their redeployment in January 2008.  COL Pinkerton relinquished command in April 2008 and was assigned as the Assistant Chief of Staff, G3 for the 1st Cavalry Division.  COL Pinkerton served as the Division G3 from April 2008 until June 2010, and during this time deployed with the Division from January 2009 through January 2010 in support of OIF 09-10.

COL Pinkerton’s awards and decorations include: the Bronze Star Medal, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Joint Service Achievement Medal, Army Achievement Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Korean Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Iraqi Campaign Medal, Joint Meritorious Unit Award, the Valorous Unit Award, Ranger Tab, Airborne Badge, Air Assault Badge, Expert Infantryman’s Badge, and Combat Infantryman’s Badge.
