DG John graduated from Rockdale High School and completed his education earning a Ph.D. in Immunology from the College of Veterinary Medicine, Department of Microbiology and Parasitology at Texas A&M University, in 1980.
Between undergraduate and graduate school he served in the United States Air Force.
He is retired from the Agricultural Research Service, of the USDA, where he served as a Research Immunologist until retirement in 2009. Following retirement from the USDA he spent two rewarding years teaching High School chemistry and physics at Lexington High School, fully retiring in 2011.
Lion John is a member of the Milano Evening Lions and has served as Club President and Zone Chair. Lion John is a Melvin Jones Fellow, and has attended the Advanced Lions Leadership Institute, USA/Canada & Texas Forums, and supports the Texas Lions Camp as a Key Holder through the Century Club Program and the Lone Star Lions Eye Bank through the 20-20 Visionary Program.
Lion John is a member of the Milam County Historical Commission, is Treasurer on the Board of Directors of the El Camino Real de los Tejas National Historic Trail, and serves as Bishop’s Warden at St. Thomas Episcopal, Rockdale.
Lion Brenda and Lion John have a combined 3 daughters, 7 grandchildren, and a great-grandson. They both enjoy volunteer service, and what better way to serve than as a Lion.
