DotBot Robotics

April 21, 2016

Introduced by Lion Patti Robinson

The Dot Bots are the Texas School for the Blind and Visually Impaired Robotics League Team. They are guided by:

  • Kay Pruett, TSBVI Secondary Braille and Reading teacher
  • Gerry Cocco, LASA High School Robotics and Software Engineer
  • Jim Allan, TSBVI Webmaster
  • Paula Nasta, Lions Club and UT Graduate student
  • TSBVI residential staff

This year the team is composed of students from the TSBVI elementary school. These students are from all over Texas. The shirt designed by the original Dot Bots team shows where the original five team members were from. The students stay in the dorm during the week and go home some or all weekends. Students developed teamwork as they built a LEGO® robot, programmed it by typing in code, researched and planned a presentation about their innovative way to remove trash from our rivers. They competed with 23 other teams (all sighted) from around central Texas in the robot game as well as being judged on robot design, their presentation and their “core values”.

Student members and coaches will present a program describing TSBVI’s involvement in the FIRST® LEGO® League on April 21st.
