Austin's Trinity Center

Diane Holloway

April 14, 2016

Introduced by Lion Anne Rodgers

This week, we will hear from The Trinity Center’s Communications/Volunteer Director Diane Holloway, who will talk about the outreach work of this downtown organization that serves people experiencing homelessness.

Diane joined the Center in 2013 and has made quite an impact. She updated and re-launched the organization’s website and Facebook page. (Just ask Mark Hastings if this is a bit of work!)

She also created a monthly newsletter and maintains all social media for the group; recruits and trains volunteers; organizes major fundraisers and all other events; and is actively engaged in the daily operations of the non-profit.

Trinity Center grew from the concern of parishioners of St. David’s Episcopal Church for people experiencing homelessness and living in shelters or on the streets by the church. It was founded by volunteers and since its inception in 1999 has evolved from a Sunday-only ministry in borrowed space to a separately incorporated 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, incorporated in April 2000, that offers a variety of programs and activities for the homeless population throughout the week.

Diane is the former television critic for the Austin American-Statesman, a position she held for 30 years. She is married to Ben Sargent, who addressed our club March 31st on the Steam Train Association.

To support Trinity Center’s ongoing mission, Lions who are so inclined may bring a gift of socks (new only, please) to Thursday’s meeting. This is a simple gift, but one that is so appreciated by the neighbors who utilize the services at Trinity. Diane tells us that clean, warm socks are always needed.
