Don Haynes served as the Director of Bands at LBJ High School in Austin, Texas for 40 years. During his long tenure, the LBJ Marching Bands, Concert Bands, and Jazz Bands won several state and national and international honors including FIRST place awards at major band festivals, and parades in the states of Arizona, California, Colorado, Oklahoma, Louisiana, Florida, and Texas.
In 1996 the LBJ Marching Band was invited and represented the state of Texas as special guest in the London England New Year’s Day Parade. The Jaguar Band has performed in the Cotton Bowl, the Sugar Bowl, and Citrus Bowl Classics. The LBJ Marching Band has appeared several times at the coveted UIL State marching band contest in San Antonio's Alamodome. Their concert bands consistently earn the UIL grand sweepstakes honors.
The LBJ Band has had tremendous international travels that include appearances in Paris, and twice in London. In 2007, the band served as music ambassadors for the United States in Beijing, China for an American-Chinese multi-cultural exchange concert performance; performing on the Great Wall of China. In 2013 the LBJ Band will toured Florence, and Rome, Italy.
Mr. Haynes is frequently called upon as a guest clinician, lecturer, and guest conductor across the Southwest. He is frequently invited to guest conduct at special band events including all state bands, and region bands.
Following his total of 42 years of teaching high school band in Austin, Texas, Don serves as a student-leadership keynote speaker, and guest speaker throughout the US.
