Better Vision Screening for All School Kids

Chelsea Elliott is doing vision screening for all of the children in schools in Maui. And to do that she got a piece of legislation passed in the Hawaii Lege...a one woman KidSight storm team. And she's one of 25 CNN finalists as an official national hero for 2015. She's a west Austin lion and we will be Skyping her for this program.

As a young woman who learned to adapt to the limitations imposed by her physical disabilities, Chelsea is more passionate than ever for increasing access to preventative vision and hearing screenings. Lion Chelsea (West Austin) has during the last year energized Lions clubs all over Hawaii as she led the charge to get legislation passed to reintroduce vision screenings in the public schools. And this summer she will return to Texas to head up a pilot study granted by the Texas Health Dept to provide Spot Camera computerized vision screenings in 10 Central Texas public schools--to prove that these screenings are more effective and cost efficient than the current 150-yr old system requiring eye charts and handwritten staff reports. Chelsea will challenge the Austin Downtown Founder Lions to form  up a team to take the ADFLC-based Spot camera and take over one of these schools this summer…and then keep going!
