Nancy Hughes is a docent at the Blanton Museum and will talk about the symbolism in painting. Why is the puppy in the painting of the Virgin Mary? Why do so many Dutch paintings have food and flowers? The European Collection at the Blanton Museum of Art, ranging from medieval times until the 19th century, is rich with signs and symbols that viewers of the time would have been quite familiar. Let's review some of these symbols and learn to interpret some paintings.Bio: Nancy Barton Hughes B.B.A. from Southern Methodist University Studied - University of Texas - Dallas Studied - Alfred Glaskill School of Fine Arts, Houston Studied - University of Houston Studied - The University of Texas Still studying - Continuing Education at the University of Texas Museum of Fine Arts Docent in Houston and Dallas Docent at Blanton Museum and Austin Museum of Art, Austin Website Coordinator for Blanton Museum Docents Speakers Bureau for Blanton Museum Presently lives in Lakeway on Lake Travis
